Broadband Speed Test

Welcome to our broadband speed testing page. To use our tester, you must have Java installed and enabled. If you are experiencing difficulties, please read our troubleshooting section below.

If you want to know what your IP address is, why not take a look at our 'What's My IP?' page.

Test Information

Please allow up to 2 to 3 minutes for the test to complete. Results are logged for statistical purposes and are an indication of your connection speed only. If the test does not complete or does not load the test results, please see our FAQ for advice.

Troubleshooting

The speedtester connects to TCP port 8095. Please ensure this port isn't blocked in firewalls. Using the port 80 option may help work around port based firewall problems.

Please see our FAQ for advice on frequent problems like the results page not loading.

If you see particularly slow speeds, running the test again and after ticking the 'Port 80' option may show different results.

We recommend you use the official Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE), available for Windows, Linux, OS X, Solaris and other operating systems. The Speed Test should load in the box above. If nothing appears, you may not have a Java Runtime Environment installed or correctly configured. You can get the latest version here.

If you receive the message "Unable to connect, please try again later.", you may be running a firewall or a network configuration which is preventing the tester from connecting. If your Internet access is restricted via a web proxy server only, you will not be able to run this test.

You can also estimate your speed using our Download Test Files.

NOTE: MaxDSL and 'upto 8Mbps' products may report varied downstream speeds depending on how fast your line can actually connect. Upstream speed may vary with rate adaptation. Other factors may affect the reported speed including ISP network congestion and shared users/programs on your connection. Any results generated are not a guarantee of your true connection speed.
